Where ideas are refined
Cupel was created to help organisations and groups move from strategy to delivery or back again.
Too often in the built environment and public spaces, good ideas are lost somewhere between the concept and the project itself. Cupel exists to close that gap, bringing practical thinking and real delivery experience to the table so projects can move forward with clarity and confidence.
Why Cupel was started
Ideas and plans are everywhere in the built environment.
The challenge is what happens between them, and whether the outcome resembles the concept.
Many teams are left trying to translate high-level thinking into day-to-day project delivery. Groups are managing complex design information, digital systems and technical coordination, often without a clear way of bringing it all together and often losing sight of the project objectives.
Cupel was created to help bridge that gap. The focus is simple: connect strategic thinking with the practical realities of delivery. Every piece of advice is shaped by real project experience and designed to work in the environments where projects actually happen.
So... what is a Cupel?
A cupel is a small vessel used in the refining of precious metals.
In the refining process, gold or silver is heated in the cupel so that impurities are absorbed into the vessel’s material, leaving the pure metal behind. It is a careful process of removing what does not belong so that what matters most can remain.
Projects in the built environment can be full of complexity. Layers of information, competing priorities and technical detail can quickly obscure the bigger picture. Cupel’s role is to help refine that complexity, bringing clarity to design processes, digital information and project coordination so teams can focus on what really matters.

Meet the founder
Cupel was founded by Matthew Bott, a built environment professional with more than twenty years of experience working across complex projects and organisations.
Matthew has worked in design management, technical coordination, digital delivery and business leadership, including roles within organisations such as Vinci, Kier and ScanTech Digital. Over that time he has supported projects at both strategic and operational levels, from shaping BIM integration into the design process to leading a team of 20 in a technical review of a £1.6 billion public sector construction programme.
